Bob "Lefty" Phillips

Born in Long Beach, Calif. April 11, 1929.   Attended grammar and high
school in Long Beach, played baseball at Long Beach Wilson High
1945-1947.   Named All-City first baseman in 1947 and help Wilson Hi
win the C.I.F. championship that year, as well as defeating the LA City
Champion 2-1 at Wrigley Field in LA.   Played at Long Beach City
College the following year.
Drafted into the US Army at the start of the Korean War in 1950.  Bob
served in an infantry company with the 5th Regimental Combat Team
thru much of 1951.  Suffered leg wounds from shrapnel during the
battle for hills north of the 38th Parallel in October.   Recovered from
injuries in 1952.
Received an honorable discharge in 1952.   He is married to Joyce, they
have three grown children, five grandchildren and three great
grandsons.

Bob and Joyce live in Huntington Beach, Calif and are enjoying their
retirement years.
